Top courts of China, Singapore sign MOU on cooperation in international commercial dispute resolution

On April 1, the supreme courts of China and Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in international commercial dispute resolution in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) through the framework of mediation in litigation, in Beijing. Tao Kaiyuan, vice-president of China's Supreme People's Court, and Belinda Ang Saw Ean, justice of the Court of Appeal of Singapore's supreme court, signed the memorandum.

The MOU aims to enhance mutual friendship, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and offer flexible, innovative and efficient dispute resolutions to litigants.

The MOU provides for the formulation and implementation of the mediation framework in litigation, cooperation with other parties, information sharing, characteristics of the framework, model clauses for mediation in litigation, and other matters. It took effect on the date of signature.
