As the Spring Festival approaches, the problem of "difficulty in getting a taxi" has emerged in many big cities, and most online car-hailing platforms have begun to charge "Spring Festival service fees". A few days ago, the "Taxi Thank You Fee" function launched on the Meituan taxi app was taken offline by the platform due to suspicion of disrupting public pricing of taxi fees. However, the market-priced online car-hailing still plans to charge "drivers' festival fees" during the Spring Festival.
According to the "Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Road Transportation Prices" that came into effect this year, online car-hailing platform companies should actively disclose the pricing mechanism and dynamic price increase mechanism to ensure clear, standardized, and transparent settlement bills, and accept social supervision. At the same time, online car-hailing platform companies should announce to the public at least 7 days in advance when they adjust their pricing mechanism or dynamic price increase mechanism.
Tang Jiansheng, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal Consumer Protection Committee, pointed out that during the peak period of car shortage such as the Spring Festival, the price of online car-hailing has risen, while the price of taxis has remained stable, and consumers are more willing to call taxis. However, by raising the price of taxis and artificially creating a shortage of taxis, the platform will actually allow more orders to flow to online car-hailing services and increase the revenue of the platform.
Some experts pointed out that the supervision of the pricing power of online car-hailing should be strengthened. Yang Guoping, vice president of the China Taxi and Car Leasing Association, believes that the current supervision methods for online car-hailing and cruise taxis are unfairly treated differently, and the two are applicable in terms of pricing power, access mechanism, taxation, and service standards. If there is a large gap between the standards, the relevant management regulations should be revised to incorporate the two into the same or similar management system.
